Another field trip!

We had a follow-up about our puppet show field trip with Alina and her friend, Nicodemus.

We played a great game today called, "My Name is on the Director's Chair."  This was suppose to be our warm-up but it lasted the entire hour!  Each student had a chance to "direct" a small group of our young actors.  Then we added in costumes.  After all, many characters are often recognized for their costumes.
The next week that we have school, we will be going on another field trip so please make sure to bring in your signed permission slips if you haven't given it to me already.

Theatre Field Trips

Last Thursday we were able to ride the link to the Pantages Theatre.  We watch an awesome glow in the dark black light puppet show.   On April 9th, we will be able to return to the theater for another field trip in order to get our very own backstage tour!  More information will be in future posts but here are some photos from this trip:

Here are pictures of us on the link and in front of the theater since no photos of the puppet show were allowed.

Field Trip Information

Tomorrow is the field trip.  Please send your children to second hour with their own lunch and a jacket.  We will eat lunch at the beginning of class and then head out.
Please go over acceptable behaviors with your young ones before they come to class!
Thanks!

Masks!

I had to miss this week since my youngest has pink eye but Teacher Nalani and Alina helped the children to create some great masks!  Here is the photo that they sent me:

Here is some more interesting information about masks from our Theatre Arts book:
"The power the mask give the actor has been respected throughout theatre history.  The earliest theatre masks were worn by Greek actors in 6th century BC.  Made of wood, leather, or linen, the mask revealed the character's gender, age and personality. "
Making masks can be about fun but it can also help actors to portray something about themselves or about the character that they play.

Make Up Magic

This week we had some fun learning a little about stage makeup.  Hopefully most of you Moms weren't too upset at we we made up your little girls.  We had a variety of makeup and props to choose from.  Some children got made up like old men and some went for the more "glamorous" route.  There will be pictures posted soon!
This next week we are going to be making masks.  Please bring scrap items from home that could be used for masks such as paper plates and string.  Also, I will take some time this next week in order to interview each student to see how they are doing on picking their talent show performance.
Also, if you have not paid for the field trip and turned in your permission slip, please do so next Thursday as the field trip is on the 19th.

Stage Makeup

I am sorry that this is a little last minute but if you have old makeup to donate to FILA's drama department, please send it with your kid tomorrow.  We will be learning about stage makeup.  Any unused makeup will be donated to the Shakespeare class. Thanks!
